Police Log: A Missing Tabby, A Flying Screen

Monday, Jan. 21

9:24 a.m. – A Spring Street resident reported finding two dead Christmas trees, two aluminum snow reflectors, and two real estate signs on her front lawn, none of them hers. She said they were placed there some time after midnight.

4:18 p.m. – The landlord of the Greenwich Hotel asked police for assistance in escorting a tenant from the building. The tenant was a week behind on rent and agreed to leave if the landlord would not pursue payment. Police issued a No Trespass order against the man and he left with his belongings.

7:07 p.m. – Police arrested Julio Reyes, 33, of Ladd Street in Warwick, for driving without a license after he was involved in a traffic accident on Division Street near the ramp to Route 4 south. Reyes had rear-ended another car at the stop light. The roads were slippery due to light snowfall, according to the report. Reyes showed police a driver’s license from Mexico that was not valid in Rhode Island. He was processed at the scene and released. An acquaintance arrived to drive the car from the scene.

9:28 p.m. – A Main Street resident told police his girlfriend had assaulted him after a fight over a cell phone. The girlfriend said she’d lunged at her boyfriend after he grabbed her cell phone and in the process had hit his arms with her hands. The man said he did not want to press charges. He was given domestic violence pamphlets and left the apartment, which he shared with the woman, for the night.

Tuesday, Jan. 22

9:31 a.m. – A Middle Road resident told police someone had driven onto the property through an opening in a stone wall and damaged the lawn by spinning its tires, ripping up some of the grass. The lawn was covered with snow and it appeared the driver had difficultly gaining traction. According to the police report, the driver may have mistaken the stone wall opening for the driveway. The incident was thought to have occurred sometime overnight before 6 a.m.

6:22 p.m. – A North Kingstown woman reported an argument with her husband in the parking lot outside the McDonald’s at 1000 Division St. The couple is in the process of a divorce. She said there had been several verbal altercations in the past and wanted this one documented.

Wednesday, Jan. 23

12:20 p.m. – A Silverwood Drive resident reported a missing cat. He said Greenwich Bay Animal Hospital had called him two weeks earlier. They told him someone wishing to remain anonymous had brought in a large orange tabby cat for shots. The Silverwood Drive resident said his cat was an outdoor car and could be gone for long periods of time. He said he wasn’t concerned if someone wanted to care for the cat, but wanted to make sure the cat was ok. On a tip from a neighbor, police followed up with a resident of Laurel Hill Road, who looked at a photo of the orange tabby and said that was his son’s new cat. They had decided to care for the cat after it would not leave the premises. The Silverwood Drive man, upon hearing this, said he was happy to hear the cat was fine.

8:04 p.m. – Police arrested Gary Raymond, 51, of Main Street, on charges of disorderly conduct and malicious injury to property after he ripped a screen door off its hinges after arguing with his girlfriend at her apartment on Duke Street. Police found Raymond at Norman’s Tap on Main Street and made the arrest. He was processed and arraigned at the station and given a No Contact order. The Duke Street resident was given domestic violence pamphlets.
