Police Log: Mailboxes, Marijuana, Expensive Jewelry

Monday, Jan. 14

3:42 p.m. – A North Providence woman called police after she said she was assaulted by the mother of children she babysat at a residence on South Road. She told police the children were not being well cared for. The woman said she did not want to press charges. A report with DCYF was filed.

Tuesday, Jan. 15

9:17 a.m. – A Middle Road resident reported her mailbox had been knocked off its post on Dec. 29 during a snowstorm. She’d thought the damage had been done by a tow truck but since the snow melted, she had seen damage to the stone wall behind the mailbox and some broken glass in the vicinity. Police reviewed events from that date and turned up a report of a driver hitting a mailbox somewhere on Middle Road, though the mailbox could not be found. There was nothing in the accident report to indicate further damage.

12:22 p.m. – Police arrested Michael Lindia, 23, of Dedford Street, for driving with a suspended license after he was involved in a car accident on Main Street near Dunkin Donuts. Routine checks turned up the license violation. Lindia was issued a court summons and released with the promise he would go to the station to be processed before then. UPDATE: This case was dismissed.

1:47 p.m. – A Sparrow Lane resident told police she was missing some jewelry from her house, in particular a gold and diamond pendant worth $15,000. She said the disappearance took place sometime between June 2011 and February 2012 but she hadn’t reported it earlier because she hadn’t gotten around to it. Although she said she suspected house cleaners she was using at that time, she did not want to pursue charges.

9:46 p.m. – Police arrested Paul Keyes, 25, of Bonnetview Drive in Jamestown, for possessing marijuana after he was pulled over while driving north on Main Street not wearing a seat belt. When talking to the driver, the police smelled marijuana. Barring a search of the car, Keyes told police where they could find his marijuana. Police recovered 6 rolled marijuana cigarettes as well as other amounts of marijuana in the car for a total of 10.5 oz. Police gave him a court summons, a citation for no seat belt, and released. UPDATE: This case was dismissed following completion of 20 hours of community service.
