Police Log: Broken Sign, Burning Car & Hunting On Hunter's Run

Friday, Jan. 4

12:25 a.m. – Police arrested Dacia Broccoli, 25, of Whitehall Drive in Warwick, for driving with a suspended license after she was pulled over for driving a car with plates belonging to another car. She was pulled over at London Street at Lion Street. She was taken to the police station where she was processed, issued a summons for Third District Court and other citations and released. Update: The case was dismissed and her license was reinstated on Jan. 10.

6:17 a.m. – Residents of First Avenue reported a van blocking their driveway after the vehicle stalled while the driver attempted to turn it around. Routine checks of the driver and his passenger turned up two suspended licenses. A tow truck towed the van from the scene and the driver’s license was seized.

1:18 p.m. – EG Police assisted state police in a search for firearms at a house on South Road as part of an investigation. The two firearms were found and seized.

6:37 p.m. – Police arrested Joshua Cahill, 19, of Strawberry Field Road in Warwick, for driving with a suspended license after he was pulled over on London Street at Duke Street after failing to stop at a stop sign. Cahill was issued a court summons, told he must report to the EGPD for fingerprinting, issued a stop sign citation and released. His passenger drove the car from the scene. Update: The case was dismissed and his license was reinstated on Feb. 22.

11:20 p.m. – A security guard for the East Greenwich Yacht Club said he saw a man try to pull a EGYC sign off the building, breaking off a piece of it in the process. The man told the guard he was doing it on a dare and that he was sorry. The guard took down the man’s driver’s license information. Police looked for the man at McKinley’s, where he was heading after he talked to the guard, but did not find the man.

Saturday, Jan. 5

8:47 a.m. – Police assisted EGFD with a car fire in the parking lot outside Aim High Gymnastics Academy. The car was unattended. Police were able to reach the car’s owner, a Providence resident, who said she’d left it at a Providence repair shop on Thursday, Jan. 3. Police advised the woman to file a stolen car report with the Providence police.

4:45 p.m. – A Main Street resident told police a former boyfriend was troubling her with excessive phone calls and text messages. She said she’d gotten a restraining order against him a few months ago, but had dropped it in November. In December, she told him to cease contacting her, but he has not. Police contacted the man, who lives in North Kingstown, and told him to stop or the woman would get another restraining order against him.

6:30 p.m. – A Hunter’s Run resident reported a suspicious vehicle in her driveway. Police followed the footsteps in the snow that led from the truck and they led to a hunter in a treestand armed with bow and arrows. The man said he had permission from a property owner on Hunter’s Run, but he was not at that address and did not have written permission. Police notified DEM Police, who arrived and issued a violation to the man for hunting without written permission.

Sunday, Jan. 6

1:29 a.m. – Police questioned two men involved in a dispute at Kingston Bowl in North Kingstown after one of them turned up at the EG station. His companion had left but police found him on Main Street near London Street and seized a Leatherman knife. The second man appeared to be very drunk and had scrapes on the right side of his face. He told police he’d defended the first man in the dispute at Kingston Bowl but denied brandishing his knife. Police seized the knife and drove the men to the second man’s home in West Greenwich.
