Police Log: Candy Vandalism, Keyed Cars

Monday, Dec. 10

6:44 p.m. – An Exeter woman told police she’d damaged her car driving over a pothole on Division Street at Overbrook just minutes after police had marked the hole with a orange cone.

6:53 p.m. – A resident of Greenwich Bay Manor reported several pieces of gold jewelry from a dresser drawer went missing while she was away.  

Tuesday, Dec. 11

6:50 p.m. – A man told police his car door was keyed while it was parked at the Providence Journal distribution center on South County Trail early Tuesday morning. Parking spaces are not assigned, he said, but another employee had told his son to stay away from a particular space. His son was parked there when the damage occurred.

7:10 p.m. – A Grandview resident told police she was missing approximately 30 pieces of silver service and she suspected a woman she’d hired over the summer to help her clean and organize.

Wednesday, Dec. 12

9:17 a.m. – The assistant manager of Benny’s reported the theft of two special order Christmas tree ornaments – a Almac’s sign and a Navy Sea B. The man who had ordered the ornaments picked them up but allegedly left without paying for them.

10:30 p.m. – Four customers were suspected of vandalizing a candy jar on the porch at Besos while they were leaving. They had to return to the restaurant because one of the party had left his wallet at the bar. The proprietor did not want to press charges, but all four men appeared to be drunk, so police took them to the station and called cabs for them.

Thursday, Dec. 13

7:45 a.m. – A Duke Street resident told police someone had scratched the hood and passenger side of her car sometime after 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.

8 a.m. – An employee of Uncle Bob’s Storage on Frenchtown Road told reported a damaged car on the back access road nearby. The car was lying on its driver’s side. It appeared to police that the car had hit a rock in the road causing it to flip on its side. Both airbags had deployed. There was a not on the roof that read, “Vehicle scheduled to be towed.” The car was towed to the owner’s house.

11:22 a.m. – Police arrested Gary Bouffard, 48, of Bracken Street in Cranston, on a warrant on a larceny charge involving a Wagoneer at East Greenwich High School on June 6. He pleaded not guilty.
