4:32 p.m. – An East Greenwich resident came to the station to report a possible phone scam. She told police someone called her earlier in the day saying he was from “National Grant” and that she had won $20,000. The caller told her to call an area code 202 number and use a particular code. The caller knew the resident’s name and birth date. Police called the phone number she’d been given and the man on the other end said he was John Welsey from National Grants. When police asked the nature of the man’s business, the man spelled a profanity and put police on hold.
