Police Log: Lots Of License Problems

Friday, Jan. 10

3:07 p.m. – A Division Road resident reported a possible phone scam in which she received a call from a man saying he was with UPS and that he had a package for her. He wanted to know if she was home to receive the package, which he said was a $200,000 cashier’s check and a Mercedes Benz. She told him she was not home and he hung up.

5:49 p.m. – An South Road resident reported hitting a deer while driving south on South County Trail. The deer was alive but badly injured. Police shot the deer and moved it off the roadway.

Saturday, Jan. 11

10:32 a.m. – Police arrested John Yarber, 32, of Lane 7 in Coventry, for driving with a suspended license after he was pulled over while driving west on Division Road because his front and back license plates did not match. Running the two plate numbers turned up one as suspended and the other for a different car. Yarber showed police a Rhode Island ID card. A check of his driver’s license history turned suspensed licenses in both North Carolina and Virginia. He was processed at the police station, issued traffic and District Court summonses and released.

4:07 p.m. – Police arrested David Nilsson, 32, of Mill Street in Hope, for driving with a suspended license after he was stopped on Division Street near Heritage Drive because of an expired inspection sticker. Nilsson was cited for an expired registration, driving without evidence of insurance and issued a District court summons for the suspended license. He was released at the sign with a notice to come to the police station for processing and picked up by a friend. UPDATE: This case was dismissed.

4:16 p.m. – A Briar Court resident told police she was missing a diamond engagement ring and that she suspected it may have been taken during a visit the day before by two decorators. She had left the ring with others on a windowsill above her sink and today that ring, but not the others, was missing. A search of the house did not turn up the ring, she said.

11:56 p.m. – Police arrested Suzanne Harrington, 43, of Misty Oak Drive, for driving while intoxicated after she rear-ended another car in the intersection of Main Street and First Avenue. Harrington appeared unsteady on her feet. Police gave her a field sobriety test, which she failed, so she was taken into custody. At the station, she consented to the breath alcohol test. The results were .180 and .185; the legal limit is .08. She was processed, issued a District Court summons and released.

Sunday, Jan. 12

2:20 a.m. – Police issued a warning to Rok Bar for violating the town liquor law because people were still in the restaurant.

2:47 p.m. – An employee of CVS at 517 Main Street reported a shattered glass door at the vacant storefront next door.

8:01 p.m. – Police arrested Lauren Ogden, 26, of Penguin Drive in Warwick, for driving with a suspended license and a bench warrant after police pulled her over for driving through a red light at Main and Division streets. She was processed at the station, then taken to the ACI.

Monday, Dec. 13

5:44 p.m. – Police arrested Eddie Demaire, 33, of Standard Avenue in West Warwick, for driving with a suspended license after he was stopped on Main Street after police noticed his car had no inspection sticker. Routine checks turned up the license violation. He was issued a court summons and released with instructions to come to the EG station for processing.
