Police Log: Marijuana, Seat Belts, Fighting Brothers

Thursday, Jan. 24

5:06 p.m. – Police arrested Christopher Jackson, 25, of Blodgett Avenue in Pawtucket, for possessing marijuana after he was stopped after pulling out of the Taste of China parking lot on Main Street. His car had no inspection sticker and dark tinted windows. While talking to Jackson, police smelled the odor of marijuana and asked him if there was anything in the car they should be aware of. He admitted to having been smoking marijuana and said there was some in the glove compartment. Police found several bags containing what later tested positive for marijuana in the glove compartment as well as a small glass jar with more of the same in the trunk. Jackson was processed at the station and released. The total amount of pot seized was 22 grams.

7:11 p.m. – Police arrested Mark Barrett, 27, of Oak Grove Street in Warwick, for driving with a suspended license after he was pulled over because a back seat passenger was not wearing a seat belt. Routine checks turned up the license violation. Barrett was issued a court summons and told to come to the EGPD before his court date for processing. He was also issued a seat belt citation and his license was seized. A passenger drove the car from the scene.

Friday, Jan. 25

1:41 a.m. – Police cited the owner of Rok Bar for allowing someone into the restaurant after 1 a.m. Police had seen a woman let into Rok Bar at 1:35. According to the owner, the woman who’d been allowed in was an employee returning for her cell phone, which she’d forgotten. Because this was the third time police had seen after-hours activity at Rok Bar, they issued a Municipal Court summons.

9:55 a.m. – Police arrested Jim Waldeck, 44, of Main Street, on a bench warrant after he was picked up at the Greenwich Hotel. He was processed at the station and later taken to Kent County Courthouse.

4:43 p.m. – Police put down a deer after it was hit by a car on Division Road at Shippeetown Road. The driver said a small deer had run in front of her car and she had hit it. Her car was undamaged; the deer was in the woods on the side of the road trying to stand. The officer shot the deer.

6:52 p.m. – Police assisted EGFD rescue as they took care of a man who had consumed too much of his medication. The man was taken to Kent Hospital for evaluation.

9:34 p.m. – Police arrested both Justin Laplume, 20, and Jonathan Laplume, 20, of Lion Street, for domestic assault and disorderly conduct after an extended fight at the Lion Street apartment. According to the report, Justin Laplume was belligerently toward police during the investigation and appeared to have been drinking. Cups and small bottles containing alcohol were seen in the apartment. From witness accounts, Justin egged his brother into a fight but the fight, once commenced, was mutual. Jonathan had bite marks and cuts on his torso and head. Justin said he wasn’t well either. Ed Note: This case was dismissed.

Saturday, Jan. 26

10:51 a.m. – Police had a car towed from 118 Peirce St. because it was parked half on the sidewalk and half in the street.

1 p.m. – Someone told police about an argument outside of Aim High Academy in which a man appeared to be harassing a woman who was leaving with three children. Police contacted the woman and learned she and the man were divorcing. Police contacted the man and told him to control his behavior.

1:17 p.m. – A resident of Trappers Lane told police someone left large boot prints in the snow around the property. The prints led to windows and doors around the house, then to the woods near Grand View Drive. He asked police to check on the property at night.

5:11 p.m. – Police arrested Leigh Haverly, 28, of Warren Avenue in Cranston, for driving with a suspended license after he was stopped for failing to use his turn signal when turning from Cliff Avenue onto First Avenue. Routine checks turned up the license violation. Haverly was issued a court summons and released, with instructions to visit the police station before for processing before his court date.

Sunday, Jan. 27

1 p.m. – A Cliff Street resident told police he was missing some prescription medications after inviting a few people over on Saturday.
