Police Log: Reappearing Backpacks, Disappearing Coat

Friday, Dec. 21

8:06 p.m. – Police arrested Jermaine Gadson, 31, of Nancy Street in Providence, for driving with a suspended license after he was stopped while driving north on Main Street because his front-seat passenger was not wearing a seatbelt.

Sunday, Dec. 23

2:20 p.m. – An employee of Cracker Barrel Restaurant at the Center of New England told police someone had stolen her coat and car keys from the employee break room sometime during her shift on Saturday between 3 p.m. and midnight. She said it was possible someone had taken the coat by mistake. The keys were in the coat pocket.

Wednesday, Dec. 26

1:45 p.m. – An employee of Greenwich Health and Wellness told police a client had been harassing people at the club. She asked police to issue the man, who lives in East Greenwich, a No Trespass order, which they did without incident.

5:40 p.m. – A real estate developer reported the theft of several pieces of equipment from a worksite on Crompton Avenue.

Thursday, Dec. 27

3:51 p.m. – Police arrested Edward Sherman, 51, of Castle Street, on two bench warrants after police recognized him while he was driving his truck south on Main Street. Sherman was taken into custody and his passenger drove the truck from the scene.

Friday, Dec. 28

9:24 a.m. – A Pawtucket man came into the station to report his former roommate’s use of his name to open up a utility account for their shared residence on Frenchtown Road. The Pawtucket man said he only learned of the outstanding bill – for $1,225 – when he went to open up a new account.

11:30 a.m. – A resident of Saint Elizabeth Home reported missing $200 cash and a gold bracelet sometime between Dec. 21 and Dec. 25.

3:30 p.m. – An East Greenwich man found two black backpacks near 48 Water Street underneath a blue canvas. Each contained laptop computers and the names inside linked them to a missing items report made by two people on Dec. 12. The owners were notified. The items in the backpacks, sunglasses and a checkbook in addition to the computers, appeared to be undamaged.

6:48 p.m. – A Coventry man told police his car door was hit by another car while he was getting out of his car after parking on Main Street. He said the other car kept going. The man’s three passengers witnessed the incident, as did a parking valet employee who was across the street.
