Police Log: Scalloptown Showdown

Thursday, Aug. 1

9:25 a.m. – A Forge Road resident told police she was injured by a dog at Scalloptown Park after she pinned the dog down because it was off leash and she was afraid the dog would injure her smaller dog. She said she got a small cut when the dog inadvertently bit her and her knees and elbows got scrapes. The owner of the larger dog was not happy and told the woman so. The woman gave police the license plate number of the car she thought belonged to the other dog owner. Police talked to that man, of East Greenwich, and he said the woman’s dog had been off leash and had attacked his dog.

5 p.m. – Police arrested Cody P. Gasrow, 19, of Standard Avenue, for possession of narcotics after he was stopped by police while walking on Main Street near Forge Road. Police had heard from numerous sources that Gasrow was allegedly involved in selling prescription drugs. After being searched by police, Gasrow told them he had five Percocet pills in his wallet that belonged to his mother. He denied that he was selling them. He was taken into custody, processed at the station and held pending arraignment.

Friday, Aug. 2

12:29 a.m. – Police arrested Kelly J. Lamarre, 19, of Doris Avenue in Warwick, on a Third District Court bench warrant, after she was stopped for speeding while driving north on Main Street. Her rear license plate light was out, too. Lamarre was taken to the station, processed and then taken to the ACI to await arraignment.

1:03 a.m. – A North Kingstown man told police someone ejected from Fat Belly’s on Main Street earlier in the evening had fallen into his car, parked on the street, denting it. The NK man said the car was brand new so he wanted the incident documented.

1:57 a.m. – While on patrol on Main Street, police noticed the front door of Fat Belly’s was wide open, nearly an hour past closing time. By town ordinance, all employees are to be out of the building by 1:30 a.m. The Fat Belly’s owner said he’d called for an extension, but police told him that was only for 15 minutes. A warning was issued.

10:30 a.m. – A Post Road Cumberland Farms employee told police she found a used plastic syringe by the dumpster. When police said they would not be checking fingerprints on the syringe but only disposing of it, the employee asked for it back so she could turn it over to her boss.

7:33 p.m. – Police towed a car parked in front of 88 King Street, a no-parking zone.

9:06 p.m. – Police towed 11 cars parked illegally at Division and Water streets.

Saturday, Aug. 3

12:23 a.m. – The owner of Nautika told police he needed help with a man refusing to leave. The man was refused entrance, according to the owner, because he was not dressed appropriately. The man began arguing and using profanities. After police arrived, the man calmed down and agreed a friend could take him home.

2:33 a.m. – During a routine security check at Our Lady of Mercy School, police noticed a broken window on the east side of the building. The outer window had been smashed, but an inner storm-type window remained intact.

6:19 a.m. – A North Kingstown woman told police a dog had been following her while she walked on Post Road past Main Street. She said she thought she knew the dog’s owner and that the owner didn’t treat the dog well. Police tried to find the owner but ended up taking the dog to the NK Animal Hospital when no one was home.

7:30 a.m. – Police arrested Edward Sherman, 52, of Castle Street, on a Third District Court warrant, after he came to the station for another issue. He was processed then taken to the ACI.

4:09 p.m. – Police were called to McDonald’s because a customer there was causing a disturbance in the men’s bathroom. Police found the man locked in a stall. Eventually he came out. The man had a bag tucked in his waist that contained several unused hypodermic needles. Police could find no drugs on the man so he was released. A further check turned up one used needle in a dispenser.

4:49 p.m. – Police arrested Jeffrey M. Kuyoth, 49, of Pendar Road in North Kingstown, for driving with an expired license after police pulled him over for speeding on Division Road. Routine checks turned up that Kuyoth’s license had expired in 2006 and the car’s registration had expired in 2007. He was issued a summons and a citation for speeding and paid cash to have his car towed to his house. Kuyoth got a ride home with the tow truck operator.

6:35 p.m. – The manager of the Greenwich Hotel contacted police about an unpaid bill. A man from Little Rock, Arkansas, had persuaded the manager to let him stay for the week, although he didn’t only had partial payment. The man stayed for three nights, then left without paying the balance.

6:52 p.m. – The EG Housing Authority director told police some children had sprayed paint all over the driveway inside the Marlborough Crossings housing complex.

10:30 p.m. – Police had a car towed that was parked illegally on Castle and London streets.

11:20 p.m. – Police called a tow truck to tow a car parked illegally on King Street but the owner arrived and paid the tow operator the fee and was able to drive the car home.
