Police Log: Stolen Boat Recovered, Broken Windows

Information about the following incidents was supplied by the East Greenwich Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.


Wednesday, May 15

8:41 a.m. – A resident of Castle Street told police someone had slashed all four of the tires on his truck while it was while it was parked outside his residence. He said he wasn’t sure who had done it but said he wanted to press charges if the culprit is found.

7:25 a.m. – Police put down a deer on Middle Road near Sweet Pea Village that was hit by a car and appeared to be badly injured. They contacted DEM to take the carcass away.

Thursday, May 16

10:52 a.m. – Police and the Harbormaster found a boat “in the area” of EG Yacht Club that had been reported stolen in Cowesett a few days earlier. The owner was notified; Warwick police are continuing their investigation.

11:09 a.m. – Police arrested Michael K. Lake, 51, of Lakeside Drive in Coventry, on a bench warrant for failing to pay child support and for driving with an expired license, after he was stopped because he wasn’t wearing a seatbelt. Routine checks turned up the violations and also that the car was not registered. Lake was processed at the station and later taken to Family Court in Providence. His car was towed from the scene.

1:07 p.m. – The animal control officer mailed three tickets to an Adirondack Drive resident, for keeping more than three dogs and for not licensing her dogs.

1:52 p.m. – A 14-year-old riding his bike on the sidewalk ran into a car waiting to pull out from Pierce Street to Main Street. The driver said she had stopped at the stop sign but then pulled into the crosswalk to better monitor the traffic. She said the bike came out of nowhere. The bicyclist said by the time he saw the car in front of him, he couldn’t stop. He said he was not injured. His father came to pick him up.

Friday, May 17

10:27 a.m. – Police arrested Scott D.J. Brown, 29, of Main Street in West Warwick, for driving with a suspended license after he was pulled over on South County Trail because his inspection sticker was expired. Brown was issued a court summons and released with the pledge he would visit the station before his court date for processing. His car was towed from the scene.

Saturday, May 18

7:37 a.m. – The manager of the Dunkin Donuts on South County Trail told police someone broke a window at the store overnight. The store had closed at 9 p.m. the night before. While they have video surveillance, the camera was not trained on that particular area.  Police said it looked like a rock was thrown at the window.

8:16 a.m. – The owner of Greenwich Liquors on South County Trail told police someone had thrown something through his glass door. Greenwich Liquors is across the street and just north of the Dunkin Donuts (see previous incident). The store had closed at 10 p.m. Friday. The owner said he did not have video surveillance.

10:58 a.m. – A Shippeetown Road resident told police he had a dispute with the contractor who had paved his driveway. The driveway needed to be redone, which both parties agreed to, but then the resident said he wanted to hold on to the final payment until the job was completed. At that point, the contractor got angry and left, with the contract.  The resident hadn’t been able to reach the contractor (of Cranston) since then.

11:30 a.m. – A Division Street resident complained to police about the noise levels at Rok Bar and Grille on the corner of Division and Main streets.

12:30 p.m. – An owner of A Wooden Duck, a shop on South County Trail, told police someone had thrown something through one of the windows. She said the last person had left the shop at 5 p.m. Friday. The shop does not have surveillance cameras.

3:50 p.m. – Police arrested Abraham Avila Vicente, 28, for driving without a license after he was stopped on Post Road because he changed lanes with signaling. Vicente had no record of ever having a driver’s license. He was taken to the station for processing and his car was towed from the scene.

10:02 p.m. – A Division Street resident complained about excessively loud music coming from Rok Bar and Grille. Police checked decibel levels and found them to be within the municipal ordinance allowance but noticed the bass could be heard clearly inside and outside her residence. Police talked to the manager at Rok Bar, who said he would turn down the bass immediately.

Sunday, May 19

12:46 a.m. – A resident of Crompton Road told police someone shot a BB gun at her picture window. The damage was thought to have occurred in the past 12 to 24 hours.
