Raptakis Wants Increased Prison Time For Convicted Murderers
The incoming state senator from Coventry, West Greenwich and East Greenwich said a ruling on Alfred A. Brissette Jr., convicted of second-degree murder, prompted him to want to propose the legislation.

State Senator elect Lou Raptakis (D-33) said he intends to resubmit a bill to increase jail time for those convicted of first- or second-degree murder or carjacking, according to the Providence Journal.
Raptakis said it's a reaction to the state's decision to set parole for Alfred A. Brissette, Jr., who has served 13 years of a 35-year sentence for his role in the murder of a Jeannette Descoteaux of Woonsocket in 1999.
Rapatakis was elected to state Senate Dist. 33, beating Republican Glen Shibley and regaining the seat he held from 1996 to 2010.
