RI DOT: State Says Loose Plate On I-95 Damaged 15-18 Cars, Trucks
The drivers are entitled to make a claim for damages, the state said.

EAST GREENWICH, RI — More than a dozen cars and trucks were damaged on Friday morning when their drivers ran over a loose metal plate on Interstate 95 near exit 8. The state Department of Transportation estimates 15 to 18 vehicles ended up with flat tires or other problems. The drivers will be able to apply for reimbursement, according to Charles St. Martin, chief of public affairs for RI DOT.
To file a claim, call 401- 222-2492, ext. 4101 or 401-734-4817 or go online at www.dot.ri.gov/about/claims.php.
RI DOT crews had been doing road work on the South County Freeway Bridge in that section of I-95 and used temporary steel plates to cover the bridge joints. The problem happened when the plates shifted, St. Martin said. This morning, crews removed all the steel plates and filled the road with an asphalt mix.
