Sunday Blizzard Blog: Power Picture Improves, Still No Word On School

4:15 p.m.

• Power is back on in the Frenchtown area, according to the police, including Frenchtown School. No word yet on Meadowbrook and EGHS. At 4 p.m., the number of EG customers without power was down to 440, they said.
• There WILL BE normal trash collection this week, said Town Manager Bill Sequino.
• DPW plows will be widening roads all over town tomorrow. "It was a very messy storm," said Sequino. "We need to push back that snow so that cars can get by."
• The sidewalks are hit and miss on Main Street right now. Some shop owners have shoveled; others have not. The town often helps clear the snow off Main Street sidewalks but, said Sequino they just don't have the time until the roads have been widened – it could happen overnight Monday.

1:45 p.m. 

• EG Police Lt. Brian Clement said three out of the town's six public schools were without power: Frenchtown, Meadowbrook and EGHS. He said National Grid was on Frenchtown Road now working on that power outage; he had no word on the outage affecting the other schools. Supt. Victor Mercurio said he wasn't sure how soon he'd make the call.
• Clement also commended Department of Public Works employees for their efforts clearing the streets over the past two days: "The response by DPW – I’ve got to commend them for their response."
• The pasta dinner at the Fireman's Hall to raise money for the Boy Scout House on Spring Street has been postponed. Stay tuned for the new date.
• According to the Providence Journal's list of customers by community without power, 880 customers in East Greenwich still in the dark. By the way, their "E-Edition" is free through Monday. The Kent County Y is offering showers, warmth and power outlets to anyone in need. 
• The R.I. Emergency Management Agency recommends clearing snow off of flat roofs because sleet and rain are in the forecast Monday.
