Town Manager Sequino Resigns

Bill Sequino, who's been town manager of East Greenwich for 25 years, is to become the executive director of R.I. Clean Water Finance Agency.


Four months after Town Manager Bill Sequino marked 25 years on the job in East Greenwich, he said Tuesday he will resign to take on the executive director post at the quasi-public R.I. Clean Water Finance Agency.

The announcement comes one day after . 

Sequino will replace Anthony Simeone, who is retiring after 19 years. The agency provides subsized and low-interest loans to Rhode Island cities and towns for infrastructure projects, including East Greenwich's just completed replacement of the Water Street sewer line.

"This was too good to pass up," Sequino said Tuesday morning, noting Simeone's long tenure. "I'm excited."

"It was certainly a surprise but it's certainly understandable that Bill would want to seek new challenges especially when an opportunity would open up ... in an area where he has particular skills and interest," said Town Council President Michael Isaacs.

Sequino has a keen interest in bond ratings and has made maintenance of East Greenwich's high bond rating a priorty. EG has a AA bond rating.

His last day is July 5.

Isaacs said a search for his replacement will begin "immediately."
