What’s Special About Mom? EG Responds

From great cooking and support to guidance and inspiration to "everything!"

We checked in with a few people in East Greenwich over the past couple of days to hear their thoughts about their moms. If you'd like to weigh in, it's not too late – you can do it in the comments section.

Happy Mother's Day, East Greenwich!

"My mother is probably the strongest woman I know. She has been through so much and doesn't back down from a challenge. She is extremely hard-working. She is a very selfless woman. She divides her time between Boosters Club, helping both her children, and her workload. She is a very friendly, caring, and funny woman. A day with my mom is always great, but I believe that Mother's Day should occur 365 days of the year instead of a Sunday in May. There's too much to be thankful for with my mom. She has made me a better student, athlete, and gentleman. And I couldn't thank her enough for all the great things she does for me. I love her."

Linnie Wray, EG resident, about her mother, Susan:

"We are all still learning to grieve and grow together but through all the tragedies [loss of their father/husband, paralysis of sister/daughter], my mom has continually encouraged and supported me and my siblings. She's a witty, intelligent woman who faithfully serves and loves her four kids. I'm grateful beyond words. I hope she knows."

Bill Sequino, EG Town Manager, about his mother, Carolina:

"She was a typical Italian mother, always cooking. That’s where I got my food hobby. She made a great pizza. I have not been able to duplicate it. But I’ve gotten close to duplicating her stuffed artichokes and her baked stuff lobster."

Pam Aveyard, assistant to the Town Manager, about her mother, Arlyne:

"My mom died when I was 16. These aren’t fun weekends. She was very sweet – she would do anything for anyone. She worked at the Newport Creamery [in East Greenwich].Β

Peter Saenz, EGHS Class of '11, about his mother, Joyce:

"I think she’s a phenomenal woman who I wouldn’t be half the boyish-man I am today without. She doesn’t know I’m here. I'm turning around, going back [to George Mason University in Virginia], for my last final Monday. That’s crazy! That’s love!"

Michael Florio, P.E. teacher at EGHS, about his mother, Gayle:

"She’s the most wonderful person.Β She is just there for me. [What makes her special?]Β Man, just everything, everything....Β Every day I try to be a better husband, father and son. That desire comes from what my mother taught me growing up. She is the stone I lean on."

Jacob Shaunessey, EGHS sophomore, about his mother, Marie Therese:

"She's always helping me study for tests, if I enjoy it or not! My mom also is always telling me how to go down the right path in life, such as friends, schoolwork, and leisure time. She is always there for me when things go wrong at school or home, and one of the biggest lessons she has taught me is too 'never give up.' These are some things I love about my mom – Happy Mother's Day Mom!"
