E.P. Man Charged After 'Fighting' With Police Officers

The Beverly Road man, 31, reportedly has a history of physical confrontations with East Providence patrol officers.

An East Providence man, 31, who reportedly has a history of fighting with police officers got into another scuffle with them last week. He now faces charges for disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.

Kyle J. Rebello, of 99 Beverly Road, was allegedly yelling, swearing and acting in a "belligerent" manner outside Lee’s Restaurant in Riverside last Wednesday evening, June 12. Police officers responded about 6:30 pm.

Rebello allegedly ran into the restaurant and through the dining room and kitchen area and out the back door to try to escape the police officers. He was spotted headed toward the nearby East Bay Bike Path.

Police gave chase and began a search for Rebello, according to the arrest report. He was finally located nearby in Riverside by a police officer, but he would not stop for questioning about his actions in the restaurant parking lot.

"Nope" he reportedly said as he ran off.

The officer gave chase again as Rebello reportedly ran away despite being ordered to stop for questioning another time. The officer located him a few minutes later and gave chase on foot.

At that point, Rebello allegedly got into a type of stance that indicated to the police officer that he was looking to fight. The man reportedly has had some mixed martial arts training.

The officer drew his Taser at that point and fired it into Rebello’s chest just above the abdomen. But it seemed to do no good as Rebello broke off the wires and seemed ready to physically confront the police officer.

The officer then pulled out his baton to square off with Rebello if need be. The man reportedly got down on his knees at that point, where he was handcuffed. Other officers arrived at about the same time.

Even as Rebello was being loaded into a police car for transport to the police station, however, according to the report, he struggled with the officers and tried to use his shoulders to hit them.

One of the police officers reportedly suffered a dislocated shoulder during this struggle with Rebello and had to receive treatment at Rhode Island Hospital.

Two prongs from the Taser reportedly were found in Rebello's chest. It is not known why the device apparently malfunctioned or did not bring the man to his knees.
