EP Robbery: Second Suspect Surrenders To Taunton, Mass. Police

Police now have both suspects in custody. The second suspect is a juvenile.

EAST PROVIDENCE, RI — Both suspects wanted for robberies in four communities are now in custody, Taunton, Mass., police said today. On Sunday morning at 11, a 17-year-old juvenile turned himself in. He is from Massachusetts, but his name is not being released because of his age. He will face charges in connection with armed robberies in Pawtucket, East Providence, Taunton and in Raynham, Mass.

On Dec. 7, Taunton police arrested the first suspect. A patrol officer around 8 p.m. spotted a Nissan Maxima, which had been connected to the four crimes. Miguel Gonzalez, 19, of Stoughton, Mass., was stopped on Weir Street. He was charged in connection with a Dec. 6 armed robbery at the CVS, 284 Winthrop St., Taunton.

Detective from the four communities worked together to identify the two suspects believed also to be responsible for two Dec. 3 armed robberies in Pawtucket and in East Providence. In both cases, liquor stores were held up, but a 68-year-old man was stabbed during the East Providence incident. He was a customer in the store. Then on Dec. 5, a gas station/convenience store in Raynham was held up.

Gonzalez was being held on a million dollars bail prior to his arraignment last week.

The Rhode Island Attorney General’s Office is seeking an arrest warrant for the charges in Rhode Island, Taunton police said.
