Get Ready for New Recycling System

Automated recycling starts the week of Sept. 9 in East Providence; you'll be getting a new bin soon.

East Providence starts rolling out today, Aug. 13, the new 95-gallon recycling bins for the new automated-collection system.

The new recycling system won’t start until the week of Sept. 9. That’s also when the collection of recyclables goes from once a week to once every two weeks.

MTG Disposal will drop off the new blue bins throughout August with a brochure explaining the new system. You should continue to use the current recycling buckets until the automated system starts.

The new automated system allows the MTG trucks to be staffed by only one person – a driver who can hoist the bin to the top of the truck with a mechanical arm that will extend from the passenger side, and then dump the recycled paper, plastic and glass into the truck.

Your bin will be returned to the same spot it was picked up by the mechanical arm.
