Here's What's Happening This Weekend

Looking for a few things to do this weekend in and around East Providence?

Are you into cars? American Legion Post 10, 830 Willett Ave., hosts a free classic car showcase on Saturday, Aug. 10, from 10 am to 2 pm. There will be music, food and a 50/50 raffle. You can show off your car for $5. Donations of canned goods and non-perishables will be accepted on behalf of the Riverside Food Bank.

Start your weekend shopping at the nearby Barrington farmers market at the Barrington Congregational Church on Saturday, Aug. 10, from 9 am to noon. There are always new vendors on hand with seasonal produce, breads, pastries and other home-grown goods. Among the usual vendors are New Urban Farmers in Pawtucket, Aquidneck Honey in Middletown, Providence Coffee Roasters in Providence, Nettie's Kettle Corn in North Providence, Oakdale Farm in Rehoboth, and Seven Stars Bakery in Providence and East Providence.

Do you like Bluegrass music? Come on out to the free “Bluegrass Pick-nic” on Sunday, Aug. 11, at the nearby Seekonk Rod and Gun Club, 61 Reed St., Rehoboth. It will run from 11 am to dusk rain or shine. There also will be workshops, things for children to do, raffles and more.

Two ethnic festivals take place this weekend in Providence. The Bolivian Festival is Saturday, Aug. 10, from 2 to 10 pm at the Bank of America skating rink. The Dominican Festival is Sunday, Aug. 11, from 12 to 7:30 pm at Roger Williams Park.

Always Adopt is hosting what it describes as the largest one-day dog adoption event in RI on Sunday, Aug. 11, at Inskip of Warwick’s Lexus and Infiniti dealerships on Route 2. It will run from 10 am to 4 pm. The event will include a host of adoptable dogs and trainers and veterinarians to answer questions from new owners. The event is free although there are fees associated with the adoption process. Go to the AlwaysAdopt.com website to see all the loving dogs available for adoption and fill out the necessary paperwork before arriving at the event.
