Monday Essentials: Victory Day; 'Super 8'; Restaurant Week Kickoff Party

  1. The week looks mostly sunny with temperatures in the high 70s and low 80s each day; Tuesday may have some scattered thunder showers.
  2. City Hall and the Senior Center will be closed today, Aug. 12, being celebrated as Victory Day in Rhode Island – the only state to still celebrate the victory over Japan in World War II; it’s business as usual everywhere else.

  4. The Riverside Branch Library, 475 Bullocks Point Ave., continues its Cinemazing Summer Film Series on Thursday, Aug. 15, at 1:30 pm with a showing of “Super 8,” written and produced by J.J. Abrams and produced by Steven Spielberg.
  5. The "Great Taste of Summer" Restaurant Week Kickoff Party, sponsored by the East Providence Area Chamber of Commerce, is Friday, Aug. 16, at the Oyster House Marina at 28 Water St.; cocktails at 5:30 pm and dinner at 6:30 pm with celebrity chef Frank Terranova, a DJ, dancing and games.
