The Rhode Island State Police is investigating the circumstances that led to the death of John Cabral, of East Providence, who was pronounced dead at the scene near Exit 4 at around 10:30 p.m.

"While attempting to access the ramp, the motorcycle began to skid on the roadway," a state police press release said. "The motorcycle then struck the raised curbing on the right side of the exit ramp, causing the motorcycle to fall to the ground coming to rest on the raised concrete shoulder. The operator was then projected forward into a mile marker pole."
The state police Collision Reconstruction Unit and Lincoln Woods Barracks are conducting the investigation.
Updated: An earlier version of the story reported that Mr. Cabral was 28-years-old.
