'Night Out' in E.P. Draws Hundreds
East Providence Police Department hosts fourth annual 'Night Out' to take back the streets -- part of a national night out that celebrated its 30th anniversary.
Hundreds of Townies celebrated the National Night Out Against Crime Tuesday evening, Aug. 6, at the playing field adjacent to the Community Policing Station in East Providence. It was the fourth annual celebration in the city, said East Providence Police Chief Joseph Tavares, who launched the event four years ago when he took charge of the police department. Hundreds of other cities and towns across the country celebrated as well on the first Tuesday of August -- the day set aside for the event. Police and fire department vehicles competed for attention with bounce houses, a karate demonstration, a display of classic cars and a variety of other activities for young and old alike.
