'No Evidence of Gunshots' Near School

East Providence police have completed a search of the neighborhoods around Martin Middle School after a report of possible gunshots around 9 am.

East Providence police conducted a search of the neighborhoods around Martin Middle School this morning after receiving reports of possible gunshots at around 9 am.

“The reports were unfounded, there was no evidence of gunshots being fired,” said Lt. Raymond Blinn, officer in charge in the patrol division. “Right now it is being treated only as a suspicious condition.”

Lt. Blinn said the school was not locked down and there was no shelter-in-place situation. But additional precautions were taken, he said, including assigning additional police officers to the school while the search was underway.
