Rec Center Offers Babysitting Course

Participants can select one of two sessions in June; classes will take place the East Providence Recreation Center in Riverside.

The East Providence Recreation Department is offering babysitter certification programs for children ages 11-16.

Participants may choose between two sessions: 

Session I:  Mon. & Wed., June 17 & 19, 5:30-8:30pm

Session II: Saturday, June 22, 9 am-3:30pm.

The certification classes will take place at the Recreation Center at 100 Bullocks Point Ave.

Course instructors are registered nurses with more 30 years' experience in the health care field and they are American Heart Association certified CPR and First Aid instructors. They will provide a fast paced, interactive and fun learning experience, according to the recreation department.

The first three hours of instruction will focus on CPR and choking for the adult, child and infant. Students will also learn how to use an AED. 

The second half of the program will cover the elements of  first aid and child safety, and the stages of child development. Participants will also learn how to change and feed a baby and how to get their babysitting business started.

The fee for the program is $70 per person. It includes a CPR book, reference materials, a certificate of completion and snacks.
