Spend Free 'Night Out Against Crime' in East Providence

The annual event will take place Tuesday, Aug. 6, at the soccer field behind the East Providence Senior Activity Center.

Come on out with your family to another free “night out” against crime in East Providence Tuesday evening, Aug. 6.

The annual event corresponds with the National Night Out across the country.  It will run from 5 to 8 pm on the soccer field behind the Senior Center and next to the Community Policing Office at 610 Waterman Ave. 

The event is sponsored by alumni of the Citizens Police Academy and Target stores, said Sgt. John Andrews of the Community Policing Division. It is always held on the first Tuesday of August with all of the other events coast to coast.

The event will include the following:

  • Music
  • Bounce house for kids
  • Karate demonstrations
  • Antique cars
  • Display of police and fire department vehicles
  • Giveaways by local businesses
  • Free raffles and prizes
  • Free hot dogs, popcorn and water
  • Face painting and removable tattoos
  • Child car seat checks by “Safe Kids” certified police officers
  • Free ice cream by Monroe Dairy
  • Electronic child fingerprinting and IDs by New York Life

National Night Out, “America’s Night Out Against Crime,” began in 1984 as an effort to promote involvement in crime prevention activities, police-community partnerships, neighborhood camaraderie and to send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back, according to the nonprofit National Association of Town Watch.

This year's event is the 30th anniversary.
