Woman Crashes into Neighbor's House on New Year's Eve, Walks Home

The city woman was charged with driving under the influence for the second time in less than two weeks.

An East Providence woman is facing her second drunk driving charge in less than two weeks after she drove into her next-door neighbor’s house on New Year’s Eve, got out of her car and walked home.

Brenda Buja, 42, of 13 Washburn Ave., was drunk when she crashed her Kia Sorrento into into the house at 9 Washburn Ave. at around 11:30 p.m., according to East Providence police.

Along with causing heavy damage to the Kia, the crash caused damage to a front porch that took the brunt of the impact, sparing the house. Nobody was injured.

Buja was also charged with refusing a chemical test and leaving the scene of the accident.

Court records show Buja was charged with driving under the influence on Dec. 21 and was free on bail at the time of the New Year’s Eve crash.

Buja will be arraigned on Monday in Sixth Division District Court and is being held at the Adult Correctional Institutions in Cranston as a bail violator.
