Injured Friend Reportedly Abandoned After Car Crash

The following incident was reported by the Middletown Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

An 18-year-old man turned himself in after he allegedly crashed through a stone wall at the Wanumetonomy Golf and Country Club last week, leaving his injured friend behind.

Cody Cruz, 18, of 118 Third Beach Road, was charged with driving to endanger or resulting in personal injury and duty to stop at an accident that resulted in personal injury, both felonies.

Police said Cruz crashed into the country club's wall with his Acura. When police arrived on-scene, a 25-year-old man was laying on his back in the country club parking lot. He told police Cruz had been drinking at the Atlantic Beach Club earlier that day and was "flying" down Brown and crashed into the wall.  Cruz reportedly walked away shortly after he got off the phone with his father, leaving his injured friend behind.

The force of the crash projected stones onto a Honda Accord. Both vehicles had at least $1000 of damage, reported police.
