Kraeger Says Multi-Age Programs on the Chopping Block

The Middletown Schools superintendent informed parents that she plans to ask the school committee this afternoon to cut the multi-age program at two local schools.

In an eleventh-hour effort to bring the Middletown Schools budget in line with the fiscal 2014 spending plan approved by the town council last week, Supt. Rosemarie Kraeger announced that she plans to ask the school committee to end the multi-age programs at two elementary schools.

Kraeger informed parents through a letter sent on June 17, 2013, and provided to Middletown Patch. [A copy of the letter is attached.]

According to Kraeger's letter, the elimination of the programs at Aquidneck and Forest Avenue Schools will save an estimated $100,000 toward the .

The school committee is scheduled to meet to hear Kraeger's proposal at a workshop this afternoon at 1:30 pm, and to vote on the plan at its next regular meeting, set for Thursday night at 7 pm.
