Middletown Man Arrested After Motorcycle Accident

The following arrests were reported by the Newport Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

Joshua Ponte, 29, of 10 Maloney Lane, Middletown, was arrested Sunday after he allegedly crashed his motorcycle into a car parked on Prospect Hill Street in Newport. He was charged with driving under the influence and cited with refusal to submit to a chemical test, said police.

Police said he was launched off the motorcycle and hit his head on the sidewalk.

Ponte allegedly told police he was alright and asked if he could get back on his motorcycle so they could follow him home. Police said he did not appear to understand that the motorcycle was inoperable and gasoline was leaking onto the road. He was transported to Newport Hospital for treatment. Police said he was confused and combative with emergency room staff.
