Middletown Makes 3 DUI Arrests in 24 Hours

The following arrests were reported by the Middletown Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

Sharon Thibeault, 45, of 11 Summer St. Apt. #2, Newport, was arrested Friday around 2:43 a.m. on charges of driving under the influence. Police said she was driving erratically and speeding 20 mph over the limit. When asked where she was coming from, she allegedly responded, "for right down the hall.” When asked again, she allegedly said “downtown Newport.”  She allegedly said she did not have her registration because she recently got a Newport parking sticker.  She failed the field sobriety tests and was brought into custody. Police said she registered a BAC of .189 and .180, over double the legal limit to drive.

James Brinson, 33, of 3 Cliff Ave., Newport, was arrested Friday around 1:45 a.m. on charges of driving under the influence. He was also cited with refusal to submit to a chemical test. Police said he pulled out of a parking lot onto West Main Road and nearly hit the traffic island in the middle of the road. According to the police report, his car had fresh damage to the driver’s side, including scratches on the door and a broken side-view mirror. During the field sobriety tests, officers allegedly had to hold him to prevent him from falling.  During testing, he reportedly said “I’m f** up, I can’t do it.” He allegedly said he had been out drinking in Newport, but could not remember where and that police were “right to take him.”

Robert Collins, 53, of 15 Wilkey Ave., Portsmouth, was arrested on Thursday around 2:03 a.m. on charges of driving under the influence.  He was also cited with refusal to submit to a chemical test. Police pulled him over for driving erratically on West Main Road.
