MPD: Woman Threatens To Stab Man To Save Christmas, Another Hides Crack in Bra

The following arrests were reported by the Middletown Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

Woman Threatens to Slit Man's Throat To Save Christmas

Karen Gruchy, 52, of 26 Berkeley Court was arrested on Sunday around 3:43 a.m. because she allegedly threatened to kill a 56 year-old man with a knife.

She told police she had seen pictures of Christmas trees on Facebook and became upset that for the fourth year in a row, they didn't have a tree. Police said she admitted that she threatened to kill him with a knife, but denied she had a knife in her hand.  She said that if she had a knife and were to stab him, “she would slit his throat, and that would be it.”

The victim reported she got a knife from the kitchen and attempt to stab him.

Gruchy told police all she was trying to do was save Christmas. She was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct.

Two Arrested After Fight Outside Bar, Man Breaks Hand in Cell

Police arrested Vernon Keys, 42, 255 Rogers Lane and Stacey Platt, 46, of 62 Chapel Ter. on Friday around 1:32 a.m. after they allegedly got in a fight outside of Rusty’s Bar.

A witness said she saw Keyes on the ground and Platt said “don’t make me do it again.”  Keys then got up, allegedly shoved Platt and walked up to the bartender and said “yo, are you really calling the cops?”

They left the scene in a Land Rover towards Newport. Newport Police were advised and stopped the couple.

At the Middletown police station, Keyes punched the cell door numerous times, said police. He asked to go to Newport Hospital, where he continued to swear and be uncooperative, said police.  He was treated for a partially broken hand.

Keys and Platt were both charged with domestic disorderly assault

Man Arrested For Making a Scene at the Movies

Joshua Leggett, 34, of 936 Middletown, was arrested on Saturday after he was reportedly disturbing customers at Island Cinemas.  According to the police report, Leggett approached the counter and requested a refund because he did not like the movie.

Witnesses reported he was belligerent, he smelled of marijuana and he cornered a staff employee.  Leggett eventually left the theater with his ten year old son.

He was later found and charged with disorderly conduct.

Woman Allegedly Hides Crack in Her Bra

Marianna Diaz, 39, of 1 Willow Glenn Cir., Warwick was arrested on Friday at 10:45 p.m. after police found her in possession of crack/cocaine.  Police pulled over a vehicle on Purgatory Road because Diaz, the passenger, was not wearing a seatbelt and the rear plate light was not working.

A routine search turned up that Diaz had an active bench warrant. After police asked if she had anything illegal on her, she admitted that she had crack/cocaine hidden in her bra, said police.  She told police the driver made her hide the narcotics.  

Diaz was charged with a felony drug possession and cited for a bench warrant from the fourth district court.

Cinnamon Thompson, 28, of 3 Prescott Place, Newport was arrested on Friday around 11:25 a.m. on a bench warrant charge.

Stasia Bentley, 20, of 189 Rogers Lane was arrested on Sunday at 1:20 a.m. on a bench warrant charge.
