Update: Woman 'With Firearm' Leads Police to Surround Neighborhood

Police have closed parts of a Portsmouth neighborhood after a woman barricaded herself in a Union Street home with a firearm.

Union Street from Botanica, the former Potting Shed, to Jepson Lane is closed after police surrounded the neighborhood around 2 Friday afternoon.

Woman with a firearm inside a home on Union Street. They would not comment as to the type of firearm. "The area is contained and isolated at this time," Portsmouth Deputy Chief Brian Peters said. 

Police are in communication with the the suspect. When asked if the woman was alone in the house, Peters had no comment. A "handful of homes" have been evacuated, as residents were asked to voluntarily leave their homes. The State Police tactical team is on scene.
