Repeat Offenders Arrested in Middletown

The following arrests were reported by the Middletown Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

A Middletown woman and a Newport man were arrested on Friday, Oct. 25 after an anonymous caller reported someone was using crack cocaine and engaging in prostitution in a room at the Rodeway Inn in Middletown

Mary Coite, 48, of 31 West Main Road Apt #111, Middletown was charged with two bench warrants out of superior court. Coite has been arrested at least 13 times by Newport police on charges of drug possession, assault and larceny, according to state records.

Police also arrested Walter Botelho, 49, of 312 Broadway Apt. #2, Newport on a bench warrant out of the Second District Court and for obstructing an officer in execution of duty. Police said Bothelo gave a fake name of Eric “Wally” Tatro and a fake birthdate. He said he was 35 but gave a birth date that would make him 38, said police.  When asked about the difference, he said he was not sure his age because he was drunk.

Police discovered his identity through a cross agency check and matched the description to his tattoos.  Botelho’s bench warrant was for failure to appear to court after he was arrested for a DUI by Portsmouth police.

Police said they did not find narcotics, but found folded papers and small baggies consistent with drug packaging scattered throughout the room.
