5 THINGS: 50/50 and The 1980s
A good movie playing at Maury Loontjens reminds me of some other good movies, plus, uh, 1980s wrestlers the Road Warriors.

Sorry that there wasn't a Five Things for Monday – For some reason, I found myself deep in a dark darkness over some thing that happened Sunday night, but which I no longer remember, for unknown reasons. Accept my apologies, and here are the Five Things for Tuesday, February 7, 2012:
There is more than a 50/50 chance of this movie being excellent. At least according to IMDB, 50/50 is actually approved by 80 percent of those who see it. If you're unfamiliar with the basic plot, Joseph Gordon-Levitt (Third Rock From The Sun) has cancer, and Seth Rogen (every Judd Apatow movie ever) does his best to be his friend during the whole process. At , they will have at 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. WARNING: This movie is rated-R, so leave the kids at home for this one.
See the intense inner workings of government – the real guts of the beast. Tonight, the Conservation Commission meets at 5:30 p.m., and the Housing Authority and the Harbor Management Commission meet at 7 p.m. All three meetings are at . They're also all free, if you can believe it!

Oh whatta rush! – Basketball teams channel the Road Warriors today. Both the boys' basketball team (8-9, 6-7 Division II-South) and the girls' basketball team (13-3, 11-1 Division II-South) have road games tonight. They are the only teams on the schedule today.
- The boys' team travels to Tiverton High School (6-11, 5-8 Division II-East). Tip-off is at 7 p.m., with junior varsity at 5:15 p.m. The Mariners currently have 4.8 seeding points for the state tournament, tied with North Smithfield and Tolman for the 25th seed.
- The girls' team travels to Warwick Veterans Memorial High School (2-16, 1-11 Division II-South), and that game also starts at 7 p.m., with junior varsity at 5:15 p.m. According to The Providence Journal, the girls' team beat Tiverton (7-9, 6-8 Division II-South) in its last game, 51-41. For a box score, click here. Mercedes Harris led the Mariners with 17 points, and Peaches Griffith and Chelsea Sahagian each had eight points.
“I wanna hold your hand!” - some British guys. On this day in 1964, some band called The Beatles landed in America, starting the British Invasion. If you don't know what this is, ask your parents. If they don't know what it is, ask your grandparents. Better yet, just watch Ferris Bueller's Day Off, specifically, the parade scene.

“So what? So let's dance!” Speaking of 1980s icons, Rodney Dangerfield sure was awesome in Caddyshack. Here is a YouTube tribute to Al Czervik. WARNING: Just like the movie, there is a bit of mature language. Still, it's nice to know he didn't sell out like some 1980s stars for a Honda CR-V...
