5 THINGS: Bocce, Writing and Legos
Three things that naturally go together, of course, in today's five things.

Here are the (more than) Five Things for Tuesday, August 7, 2012:
Why isn’t this an Olympic sport? The South Kingstown Senior Center’s bocce club (and plays!) at 10 a.m.
Speaking of the Olympics… The Maury Loontjens Memorial Library is showing Chariots of Fire at 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. today. Admission is free, and the movie is rated PG, so feel free to bring the kids. If you’re unaware of the tale, it’s about two runners, and it’s a classic.

Not to be confused with the Innertube Space Center, of course. A of URI’s Inner Space Center is available at 10 a.m. today.
I never did finish any of the cool ones, like the Star Wars or knights sets… The Lego Club at 11 a.m. at Peace Dale Library.

Nom nom nom! Looking for some good eats? There is a at Marina Park at 2 p.m., and a for kids at the Pier Middle School in Narragansett at 11:30 a.m. courtesy of the Narragansett Lions Club.
It was a dark and stormy night… You can avoid hacky, clichéd writing by attending a six-week writing workshop at the Peace Dale Library. begins at 2 p.m.
Blood and java. There is at Java Madness at 3 p.m. today.
Cruising but not for bruisings. It is at the South County Commons, starting at 5 p.m. This refers to classic cars, and not those trips Kathie Lee used to hawk. Check out classic cars, live music and food.
Brush up on your twos, threes and fours. It’s at 6 p.m. at Maury Loontjens Memorial Library today! And if you’re looking for an awesome book about competitive Scrabble while you’re there, check out Word Freak by Stefan Fastis.
DANGER WILL ROBINSON! Starting in early September, we’re going to be phasing out the adding of new calendar events by our staff. This means that if you’re from a group or organization, you’ll have to start doing them yourself. It’s pretty simple, though! While logged into your Patch account, just go here. Adding your event ensures it’ll show up in searches, and be eligible for me to give it shout-outs in Five Things.
Sign up for our daily newsletter! Hey, I realize we have a lot of neat features and knick-knacks on the site, so it can be confusing to keep up with it all. Want just one simple, easy to read daily digest? Sign up for our e-mail newsletter here then. It comes out between 6 a.m. and 7 a.m. roughly, every single day of the week. Amazing, I know!
And people were then ambivalent. On this day in 2007, Barry Bonds broke Hank Aaron’s home run record.
Hello, Newman. Happy 57th birthday to Wayne “Newman” Knight. You either know him from Seinfeld, or as the guy who screws things up on Jurassic Park, or as a bit player from Rat Race or Space Jam or Third Rock From The Sun.
