5 THINGS: Dan Aykroyd, Tennis and Buying Stuff

Do your best to avoid 90 degree weather with some of these events.

Here are the (more than) Five Things for Sunday, July 1:

Has Wimbledon stoked your competition fire? There is drop-in tennis today at the Broad Rock tennis courts, which are behind the middle school. The cost is just $3, and the program runs from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. For more info, click .

Buy some stuff! There are just two markets on the calendar for today. The General Stanton Inn’s in Charlestown is from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. There is a at Fisherman’s Memorial State Park from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Journey to Charlestown for fish, birds and frogs (oh my!). The aforementioned is literally the name of the program from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. today at the Kettle Pond Visitors Center in Charlestown. For more info, click .

Blogging, events, letters, what more could you want? Many people often ask me, “Hey are you the Patch guy?” And the answer is yes, yes I am. Then, most often they want to know how they can get things on the site. Let me present you with three options:

  • The easiest way for me is if you use our blog form. If you have a user account, congrats! You can submit directly to our queue by going here. For more info on blogging, go here.
  • If you think your item is more appropriate for the events calendar, that's a simple enough process as well. Go here, and then hit the “Add An Event” button at the bottom of the page. (Note: You might want to search for your event first, since we do have a calendar editor that adds things on her own awesome initiative.)
  • Finally, do you need some input before posting? Or do you have a release that is more of a traditional “letter to the editor” thing? Fine then – send it along to me, either at stephen.greenwell@patch.com or narragansett@patch.com.

I would like to receive your periodical on a full-time daily basis. If that's the case, then you can get it in your e-mail box, bright and early each morning, by going here.

“O Maple Syrup!” or “O Hockey!” don’t have quite as much of a ring. On this day in 1980, “O Canada” became the anthem of Canada.

Bass-O-Matic! Happy 59th birthday to Dan Aykroyd.
