5 THINGS: Phoebe Cates, Track and Phonies

There are quite a few different events and milestones today.

Here are the (more than) Five Things for Monday, July 16, 2012:

“What I need you to do is run fast.” – Bob Saget as a track coach on Saturday Night Live. Tonight is the second week of 2012 for the Youth Track Running Series at Narragansett High School. For more info, click .

Pick-up ball. There is for adults 35+ at Peace Dale Elementary School from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The cost is $5.

The business of government business. The Narragansett Town Council at 7:30 p.m. tonight, at town hall.

Check out some wonderful photography. Downstairs in the Courthouse Center for the Arts, that is. The of Onne van der Wal is free to view. The galleries are open weekdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Blogging, events, letters, what more could you want? Many people often ask me, “Hey are you the Patch guy?” And the answer is yes, yes I am. Then, most often they want to know how they can get things on the site. Let me present you with three options:

  • The easiest way for me is if you use our blog form. If you have a user account, congrats! You can submit directly to our queue by going here. For more info on blogging, go here.
  • If you think your item is more appropriate for the events calendar, that's a simple enough process as well. Go here, and then hit the “Add An Event” button at the bottom of the page. (Note: You might want to search for your event first, since we do have a calendar editor that adds things on her own awesome initiative.)
  • Finally, do you need some input before posting? Or do you have a release that is more of a traditional “letter to the editor” thing? Fine then – send it along to me, either at stephen.greenwell@patch.com or narragansett@patch.com.

I would like to receive your periodical on a full-time daily basis. If that's the case, then you can get it in your e-mail box, bright and early each morning, by going here.

Don’t be a phony. On this day in 1951, The Catcher in the Rye was published for the first time.

Even if you’re not coming out of a pool, dripping wet, and instead dealing with vengeful slimy gremlins, you’re still beautiful to me. Happy 48th birthday to Phoebe Cates! (And by the way, she’s married to Kevin Kline, who is awesome in his own right.)
