Bicyclist Critically Injured by Driver, 88, on Route 1

Police said a 22-year-old woman from Cheshire, MA, was critically hurt after being struck by a car near Jerry Brown Farm Road on Tuesday.

SOUTH KINGSTOWN, RI—A 22-year-old woman is in critical condition after being struck by a car while riding a bicycle on Route 1 in South Kingstown on Tuesday.

Police said in a news release that the victim, of Cheshire, MA, was transported to Rhode Island Hospital after she was struck by a car driven by an 88-year-old South Kingstown woman on Route 1 near Jerry Brown Farm Road at around 12:15 p.m.

Police said the accident is under investigation and did not immediately identify the driver or the victim.

The department's Accident Reconstruction Unit is investigating and police do not believe that alcohol played a role.
