Department of Health Actions: July 10 to July 26, 2012

The following reports are based on documents released by the Rhode Island Department of Health.

The Rhode Island Department of Health has announced the following disciplinary actions. For more information, see the attached PDFs, or visit their web site.

  • The radiology license of Kristian Laferriere, 30, of 50 Mapleville Main St., Burrillville, is suspended indefinitely, pending an administrative hearing. He is accused of using a smartphone to illegally record a video of a 16-year-old female patient undressing. For more information, read the story at Barrington Patch . Laferriere worked at Barrington Urgent Care. Laferriere’s EMT license has also been suspended.
  • The controlled substances license for Dr. Jorge Ruelos is suspended indefinitely, pending an administrative hearing. According to the Department of Health, they were alerted to suspicious prescriptions written by Ruelos. Pharmacists reported that Ruelos, who has a specialty in obstetrics and gynecology, was writing improper prescriptions for male patients for Oxycodone, Hydrocodone and Percoset. According to online records, Ruelos practiced primarily in Cranston.
  • Dr. Christopher F. Huntington, an orthopedic spine surgeon practicing primarily at 298 West Exchange Street, Providence, was ordered to arrange for temporary care for any of his patients that need it. According to the Department of Health, Huntington’s license has lapsed. His patients have been referred to Prakash Sampath of 118 Dudley St., Providence, and Joseph E. Noonan, 215 Tollgate Road, Warwick.
  • The nursing license of Ronald Olsen, who was working as a registered nurse for VNA of Rhode Island, was suspended pending a hearing. According to a patient, Olsen spoke about his marriage troubles and being “lonely” before attempting to have sex with her while at a home physical therapy session. Department of Health officials also noted that Olsen does not have a valid physical therapy license for Rhode Island.
