Governor Offers $10 Million For School Safety Repairs
Districts can apply starting today, and communities with shovel-ready and low cost projects will take priority.

PROVIDENCE, RI — The state will hand out $10 million for school safety repairs and security improvements, Gov. Gina Raimondo announced on Wednesday. Every community will be eligible, but "projects that are high-impact, low-cost and shovel ready" will take priority, she said. Typical projects would include "fixing intercom systems, securing entryways, repairing emergency exits that are currently blocked off and establishing appropriate locking mechanisms for windows and doors," she said.
The money will come from the FY 2019 Capital Fund, she said.
The application period runs from Aug. 1 to Sept. 21, 2018.

''Applications are available here, and must be submitted electronically," her office said. "All approved projects that receive funding must be completed by the end of 2019."
This program is separate from the governor's billion dollar school construction proposal. Voters weigh in on that bond question later.
