Join Rhode Island's First Day Hike At Burlingame State Park
Hikers who ring in the new year with the Department of Environmental Management will receive a special commemorative pin.

CHARLESTOWN, RI — The Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management is encouraging residents to get outside this New Year's Day and take part in a First Day Hike at Burlingame State Park.
The initiative is part of a nationwide push to get Americans outdoors and into state parks. Last year, approximately 85,000 hiked more than 176,366 miles on First Day hikes across the country. This will be the sixth year the Rhode Island DEM takes part.
"DEM is thrilled to ring in the New Year with a First Day Hike at Burlingame State Park and Campground," DEM Acting Director Terry Gray said. "We invite Rhode Islanders to get out of the house, breathe in the fresh air, and get their hearts pumping after all the holiday celebrations."
