Move To RI & Collect $10,000: New Bill

A Pawtucket Rep wants the state to pay people to move here.

Not since the "cooler and warmer" campaign has Rhode Island attracted so much buzz, but Rhode Island's in the limelight again. A Pawtucket Rep wants the state to pay people to move here. The bad news (for people who already live here) it's too late to move out and come back to claim the $10,000.

As state Rep. Carlos Tobon has proposed it, the bill would give families (with at least three members and $100,000 incomes) a tax credit or (if they can't claim the tax credit) the $10,000 outright. The giveaway would be capped after 30,000 successful applicants. They must be residents in another state.

The purpose is to protect the state's two seats in Congress. Rhode Island is on the brink of losing one seat, due to population.
