According to police, while clearing from another call in Galilee they were alerted to a fight by a 55-year-old Warwick woman. Police said that in a parking lot behind the Lighthouse Inn, Haggerty and a family member were fighting.

Police said that according to the family member, Haggerty had been drinking on Block Island all day but would not relinquish her car keys. The argument over the car keys turned into a fight between the two when the family member slapped Haggerty. The family member told police that Haggerty then got on top of her and attacked her in retaliation.

According to police, while interviewing Haggerty, she smelled strongly of alcohol. She allegedly told police a story similar to the one provided by the family member.

Based on the interviews, Haggerty was arrested and charged with domestic disorderly conduct, because of her state of intoxication and refusal to relinquish her car keys.

However, police noted that while trying to place her into a squad car, Haggerty kept causing a disturbance. Police said that Haggerty kept yelling at the family member, saying, “You’re a ****ing ***** and you will never see my kids again” and “**** this, take me to jail, it’s only a slap on the wrist.”

Police noted that Haggerty’s children, who are under the age of 10, were at the scene at the time. Police added that Haggerty calmed down during transport. She was released at about 12:22 a.m. after being arraigned by a justice of the peace.
