Narragansett Police Log: December 21 and 22, 2012

Unless otherwise noted, information about the following incidents was supplied by the Narragansett Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

Four College Students Cited Following Loud Party Complaint on Rodman Street

At about 12:15 a.m. on Dec. 21, police received a report of a loud party at 118 Rodman Street.

According to police, about 80 people were at the home, with 20 cars parked illegally in the surrounding area. Police noted that in front of the home, there were several empty wine bottles, Christmas decorations and plastic debris.

Police said that while breaking the party up, they saw Michael P. O’Keefe, 20, of 85 Hamilton Drive, East Greenwich, throw a bottle of vodka at a wall. Police said O’Keefe is a student at the Community College of Rhode Island.

According to police, a background check revealed that O’Keefe was underage, and he was cited for underage possession of alcohol. O’Keefe told police that he had not thrown a bottle against the wall, and that the alcohol was not his.

Based on the citation for O’Keefe, the size of the party and the parking violations, the tenants were cited for violating the town’s social host ordinance. The tenants were identified as University of Rhode Island students John K. Kalajian and Seamus P. Fennelly, 19, and Matthew Montt, 20.

South Kingstown Teen Charged With Obstruction After Lying About Name

Tyler S. Ormsby, 19, of 40 Hazard Ave., South Kingstown, was arrested at about 12:08 a.m. on Dec. 21 and charged with obstruction. Police said a Fourth Division District Court warrant was also out for Ormsby’s arrest.

According to police, an officer made a traffic stop on a white Nissan Maxma on Point Judith Road near Clarke Road for a defective exhaust and a defective rear tail light. Police said the driver was warned for the violations.

However, police said that a background check of one of the passengers – Ormsby – came back as invalid. Police said that when asked about it, Ormsby admitted to providing police with a different name because of a warrant out for his arrest.

Police confirmed the warrant, which was related to a Dec. 12 charge by URI Police for possession of alcohol by a minor. At that point, Ormsby was arrested.

According to police, Ormsby was processed at headquarters and then released at about 2:20 a.m.

Loud Party Broken Up On Summit Road

At about 12:46 a.m. on Dec. 21, police received a report of a loud party at 40 Summit Road.

According to police, about 75 to 100 people were at the party, with cars illegally parked on both sides of the street. Police estimated the illegally parked cars at 10 to 15, with beer cans and bottles also littering the yard of 40 Summit Road and some surrounding properties.

The tenants were identified as Kyle A. Rice and Courtney D. Capello, 19.
