Narragansett Police Log: February 9, 10, 11 and 12, 2013

Smithfield Man Charged With Drunken Driving

Jeffrey R. Skurka, 24, of 203 Pinewood Drive, Smithfield, was arrested at about 12:38 a.m. on Feb. 12 and charged with drunken driving, and cited for refusing to submit to a chemical test.

According to police, an officer monitoring traffic on Ocean Road clocked a car driven by Skurka at 50 miles per hour in a 25 mile per hour zone. A traffic stop was made at Turtle Soup.

Police said that when speaking to Skurka, he told them he was an alcoholic and on his way to a treatment center, but instead he had gotten nervous and went to a bar instead. Police said an inventory of the car revealed an empty bottle of Heineken beer, an open can of Coors Light, a 30-pack of Coors Light and a 12-pack of Heineken.

According to police, Skurka consented to field sobriety tests, which he failed. He was arrested as a result.

Police said Skurka refused to submit to a chemical test at headquarters. He allegedly told police that between 8 a.m. on Feb. 11, he had started drinking from an 18-pack of beer, which he had finished.

According to police, Skurka was held for arraignment at Fourth Division District Court at 9 a.m. on Feb. 12. He was also cited for speeding and for driving with an open container.

Narragansett Woman Charged With Domestic Offenses

Ashley N. Fry, 24, of 21 Pettaquamscutt Ave., Narragansett, was arrested at about 9:41 a.m. on Feb. 12 and charged with domestic assault and domestic disorderly conduct.

According to police, at about 11 a.m. on Feb. 11, a family member told them that Fry had shoved her while she was carrying hot coffee, causing her to spill it on herself, and then threatened to assault her further and kill her.

Another family member told police that Fry had destroyed several items in the home, and then left. Police said they contacted Fry several times on Feb. 11 via cell phone, but she refused to be interviewed about the incident or to turn herself in.

According to police, Fry turned herself in at about 9:30 a.m. on Feb. 12. She was arrested without incident, processed and then transferred to Fourth Division District Court for arraignment at about 10:30 a.m.
