According to police, they took all four people in the car out one-by-one. Police said that Edick – sitting in the front passenger seat – gave them a purple and blue glass pipe. Police also found a small bag of marijuana under his seat, which he told them was his.
Edick was arrested and transported to police headquarters for processing. He was released at 3:45 a.m. with a Feb. 14 date for Fourth Division District Court. The driver was cited for speeding and allowed to drive from the scene.
Coventry Man Suspect in Felony Car Theft
According to police, a 24-year-old Coventry man is a suspect in a felony car theft case opened on Jan. 31. However, an arrest has yet to be made.
Police said a 25-year-old North Kingstown man reported his car stolen on Jan. 30. The man told police that he believed it had been towed improperly after being left at the Salt Pond Plaza.
The man told police that he had left the car in the lot at the end of the summer, because he had went out of state to care for a sick relative. He had returned to Rhode Island to have it towed to North Kingstown, but on Jan. 30, he noticed that it was gone from the lot.
According to police, the man initially thought a manager at a nearby business had had the car towed. After, after checking with all the employees on duty, police determined at about 4 p.m. on Jan. 31 that the car had been stolen.
Police said a check of the vehicle’s VIN revealed that a 24-year-old Coventry man had registered it on Jan. 31. The victim told police he did not know the man who registered the car, and had not given him permission to drive it.
According to Narragansett Police, a Coventry officer responded to the new registered address and saw the car in the driveway. The officer told the “new” owner to call Narragansett Police.
Police said that in a phone conversation, the man told them that he purchased the car for $500 off Craigslist on Dec. 17. He told police that the transaction took place in the Warwick Mall parking lot.
According to police, when they told him that they had personally seen the car in the Salt Pond Plaza the previous week, well after Dec. 17, he did not have an answer for them about the discrepancy.
The car was towed from the man’s home to Coventry Police Headquarters for the victim to pick up. As of Feb. 5, an arrest had not been made.
Unknown Incident at SK Bar Leads to Knot on Head
At about 1:39 a.m. on Feb. 1, police received a report of a 20-year-old Narragansett man with a head injury at a home on Point Judith Road.
According to police, the man told them he had been at a South Kingstown bar, and he didn’t know if he had been punched in the head or simply fallen down and hurt himself. Police said the man had been drinking.
Police said the man had a golf ball-sized lump on the back of his head with no bleeding. He was transported to South County Hospital without incident, and advised to make a report with South Kingstown police if he remembered any more of the incident. South Kingstown police dispatchers were also notified.
