Sacre Bleu! Peeing in Ocean Leads to Fight at Scarborough Beach
At about 4:22 p.m. on July 18, police were called to break up a fight at Scarborough Beach.
Although the beach is state property, Rhode Island State Police and Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management Police were unavailable to respond, so Narragansett police responded.
According to police, when they arrived the fight had already stopped, as lifeguards had separated a 41-year-old man from Springfield, MA, and a 27-year-old man from the province of Quebec in Canada.
The first man told police that the second man was standing in the ocean with his penis exposed, urinating, in front of his children. The man said when he confronted the urinating man, a verbal argument escalated into punches thrown.
The second man denied this account, and told police he was up to his waist and in the water when he was urinating, which upset the first man. He said the first man started the physical altercation.
Police said that there were no independent witnesses to the fight, and neither man wished to press charges. As a result, the scene was cleared without an arrest.
