According to police, Kovacik first said that she wasn’t familiar with the area, and said she was coming from Twin Willows.
When police noted that she had come from the shopping plaza and not Twin Willows, she told them that she had been at the “sports bar” (Pelly’s) and had had a couple beers after work. Police noted that Kovacik was a chef at Twin Willows and therefore familiar with the area.
According to police, Kovacik consented to field sobriety tests and failed them, at which point she was arrested. Police said she consented to chemical breath tests, which revealed her blood alcohol content to be about .213 and .215 at 2:27 a.m.
No Littering – Central Falls Woman Charged with Assault
Jesenia Calderon-Rijos, 24, of 190 Hedley Ave., Central Falls, was arrested at about 9:24 a.m. on July 22 and charged with assault.
According to police, a woman said she had been assaulted by Calderon-Rijos near the Towers and the Coast Guard House, and she had then left the scene. Police said that they found Calderon-Rijos a short distance away, near Taylor Street.
The victim told police that she saw Calderon-Rijos and two men drop a bag of garbage over the sea wall and on the rocks. The woman told police that she got upset, and picked up the bag and confronted them about the litter.
According to the victim, this upset Calderon-Rijos, who then started pulling her hair and hitting her in the face. Police noted that the victim had injuries consistent with an assault.
Police said that Calderon-Rijos did not speak English, but the two men with her were able to translate. She denied hitting the woman at all, and said that the victim had thrown a bottle at her.
However, police said that several independent witnesses were in the area because of the time of the day, and they confirmed the victim’s account of the events. As a result, Calderon-Rijos was arrested and charged with assault. She was processed at police headquarters and released at about 10:45 a.m.
