Police said they interviewed two victims, who said that Dawn and Edward had punched them in the face. Police noted that the victims did have injuries consistent with a punch.
According to police, Edward told them that he and the four other people in the Jeep had went to the party in an attempt to locate their nephew. Edward said that they were told the nephew had just left, but a fight then ensued. Edward denied being involved.
However, the victims told police that Michael entered the house without permission, demanding to see his nephew. When he was told that his nephew wasn’t there, several witnesses said he became upset, pushing past an 18-year-old woman at the door.
According to the witnesses, Michael shoving the girl caused the first victim, a 20-year-old Narragansett man, to shove Michael back, in an attempt to get him out of the house.
The witnesses then said that Edward punched the Narragansett man in the face. During the ensuing scuffle, witnesses said that Dawn punched an 18-year-old woman in the face.
Police said that based on the witness statements, Edward was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct. However, police said that while arresting Edward, Dawn became belligerent.
According to police, Dawn allegedly said, “Why the **** are you arresting my brother?” Police asked her to return to the Jeep, but she allegedly refused, and told them, “No, you can just arrest me too, you have no right to arrest him!”
Police said that Dawn was screaming and waving her arms around, and refused multiple requests by police to remain quiet. She was arrested when she slipped out of the grasp of Michael and another passenger, and allegedly approached police, continuing to scream and swear.
According to police, when they finished conducting interviews with the witnesses, it was determined to also arrest Michael. He was taken into custody without incident.
Police said that the female victim declined to press charges, so Dawn was not charged with simple assault. The male victim did wish to press charges, so Edward was charged with disorderly conduct and simple assault.
The nephew of the Berrigans was not interviewed by police, and did not appear to be at the scene.
Police said that at about 1 p.m., the two victims and a witness responded to headquarters to make additional statements.
The male victim had his eye photographed, which police said had nearly swollen shut. The victim told police that he was going to go to South County Hospital because he was worried he had internal injuries.
The witness, who is a renter at the Aroostook Trail home, requested a no-trespass order for Edward, Dawn and Michael. The no-trespass order was issued, police said.
Any information about the size and scope of the party at Aroostook Trail was not included in police reports. However, there was not a noise or parking complaint lodged the night of the incident.
Narragansett Man Charged with Drunken Driving; Vehicle Found on Stone Wall
Myrus Oliver, 31, of 29 Gardenia Lane, Apt. #B, Narragansett, was arrested at about 1:01 a.m. on July 5 and charged with drunken driving and obstruction, and cited for refusing to submit to a chemical test and driving while in possession of an open container.
According to police, they received a report of a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Narragansett Avenue and Boston Neck Road.
Police said when they arrived, they saw a grey Nissan Pathfinder with the front half of the car leaning over the edge of a stone wall, and the back half still in the south lot of the town beach. Police said the car was completely airborne, with all four wheels off the ground.
According to police, they saw Oliver leave the car via the driver’s side door. He denied driving the car, and said it was “a guy named John.” He allegedly couldn’t provide police with a last name, and said he had just met John that night at the bar.
However, police said that three community service officers were monitoring the parking lot. All three told police that Oliver had ran over a parking space curb and beached his car on the stone wall.
Police noted that Oliver smelled of alcohol. As a result, police asked him to consent to field sobriety tests, which they said he failed. At that point, he was arrested and charged with drunken driving and obstruction.
According to police, a search of Oliver’s Pathfinder revealed an open bottle of Bud Light. At police headquarters, Oliver allegedly refused to submit to a chemical test.
Oliver was arraigned at Fourth Division District Court later that day and released.
