D’Ambra was arrested at this point. When asked if he had any weapons or anything illegal in the car, he allegedly told police he had a bag of weed, and handed it to them from the center console. He told police he was in the process of getting a medical marijuana card.
Police said D’Ambra was processed and posted bail to a justice of the peace. He was released at about 12:15 p.m. The marijuana charge was elevated to a felony because of previous arrests and pleas by D’Ambra.
According to online records, D’Ambra has multiple felony drug and marijuana pleas, dating back to the 1980s.
Cumberland Teen Charged with Possession of Marijuana
Eric A. DeLuca, 18, of 10 Lynch Place, Cumberland, was arrested at about 11:53 p.m. on July 6 and charged with possession of marijuana.
According to police, an officer monitoring traffic near Westlake’s Garage on Point Judith Road clocked a silver Volkswagen Passat at 53 miles per hour in a 45 mile per hour zone. A traffic stop was made near Sunset Farm.
Police said that during the stop, the car smelled of marijuana, and asked DeLuca if there was any marijuana in the vehicle. He told police there was, and gave them a small bag from the center console.
He was arrested at this point and transported to police headquarters for processing. Police said a search revealed no other marijuana in the car.
A 16-year-old girl in the car had a permit, but no license, so the car was towed from the scene. The girl was held at headquarters and released to the custody of her mother at about 2:30 a.m. DeLuca was arraigned and released at about the same time.
